Sealant has to coat the casing. A 28 mm road tyre needs far less than a 2.4 inch trail tyre. Refresh it when it dries, not only when you first mount the tyre.

How the number is made

Millilitres = tyre width × (bead-seat diameter ÷ 622) × factor. Factor is 1.65 at 45 mm and under, 2.05 above that. 622 mm is a 700c / 29-inch bead seat. Example: 29 × 2.4 in (61 mm) → 61 × 1 × 2.05 = 125 ml.

Inserts and very porous casings drink the first fill. Add a splash if the tyre was stored dry. The factors land within about 15% of Stan’s NoTubes chart (50 ml for 700×28c, 80 ml for 700×45c, 110 ml for 29×2.4 in); the step above 45 mm is the switch from road and gravel casings to MTB volumes.

Questions

How often do I refill?

Every few months in a hot climate, longer if the tyre stays wet inside. This calculator is the fill volume, not the calendar.

Does width mean the label or the mounted tyre?

Use the labelled width. A mounted tyre on a wide rim can be a millimetre or two different.

Can I enter a 630 mm bead diameter?

No. The volume factor is defined only for 559, 584 and 622. Any other bead diameter is rejected.
