How the number is made
Cost per gram = price difference ÷ grams saved. The yes/no flag is yes at 5 per gram or below, in whatever currency you typed. That threshold is a budget sanity check, not a performance model. Example: 400 extra for 200 g saved → 2.00 per gram, so yes.
The currency is whatever you typed, and the cutoff is the number 5 in that currency: five dollars, five euros and five pounds count the same on purpose. If your own budget line is different, read the cost per gram rather than the flag. Weigh both parts if you can; claimed weights are often optimistic.

Is 5 per gram a rule?
No, it is this page’s cutoff, so the yes/no stays stable. Grams on rims and tyres count roughly double when you accelerate, because they also spin, and an aero part can be worth buying even if it saves no weight.
Should I include labour?
Yes, if a shop builds the wheel. Put that money in the price difference.
What happens at exactly 5 per gram?
A price of 5 per gram saved still counts as worth a look. The flag turns off only when the price per gram is above 5, in whatever currency you typed.
